Description

Eugenol USP is a clear to pale yellow liquid extracted from clove oil by fractional distillation under vacuum. Other sources of eugenol include nutmeg, cinnamon, basil and bay leaf. Clove oil is made up of between 80 to 95 percent eugenol.

Eugenol is used in perfumeries, flavorings, essential oils and in medicine (in particular dentistry) as a local antiseptic and anaesthetic. You will also find it in products such as mouthwashes, toothpastes, soaps and insect repellents. It is also increasingly used in the animal feed industry as it's proven to improve the immunity in animals including cattle, chickens and pigs.

Eugenol ex clove is used by dentists because it is antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. They often apply it to the gums to kill germs and relieve the pain of dental surgery. You may find it used during certain procedures such as tooth extractions, fillings, and root canals.
